in which i tell you that we're moving to spain

never been one to bury the lead.

next summer, we plan to move to spain.

there are one hundred and one reasons why we’re moving back to the region of spain where my husband massi and i met, fell in love, and had our first years of marriage.

among them of course is our growing discontent with the state of american politics and how it affects the safety of our daughter, my poor mediterranean husband having spent enough years in cold middle america, my own creative inspiration when in spain, and of course, the quality of life that spain’s culture provides. i’m sure i’ll tell you more about those one hundred one reasons in weeks and months to come, but that will serve as a starting point, not that i owe anyone an explanation for why we’re moving back to spain. i mean—it’s spain! this is not a difficult thing to understand.

i’m very lucky to have a client that has already approved my request to work remotely, and we will be taking advantage of spain’s new digital nomad visa. we’re very fortunate to have a child that wants to move to europe, so we can move now and enjoy the adventure with her, instead of waiting until she finishes high school or later before returning. and so, thanks to the aligning of the stars between our desire and our ability, we’re taking the leap. we’re selling all the things and going on a journey—

i mean, i know you can’t come along in my suitcase, but this lil’ substack i started and then let languish seems like as good a place as any to share with you what it means to sell all the things, pack up a few remaining belongings, and move yourself and your family to another country.

of course, along with sharing about our move and life in spain, i’ll be sharing some of the other things that matter to me. this will still be a place to remind us all of the importance of beauty in our lives, provide inspiration to practice beauty and perhaps some journaling prompts and ideas, and hopefully remind us all to slow down, stay curious, and look for the good. it’s the only way we’re going to be able to keep battling the ugly in the world, friends.

so let’s go. let’s keep going. let’s slow down. let’s practice beauty—wherever we are. beauty is everywhere.
